Having some steering problems on a 00 250SD. My steering seems to be sticking when the wheels are straight with a small blank spot on either side. Once and a while while accelerating the steering wheel will start to shake back and forth so hard I can barely hang on. This problem isn't there all the time just once and a while. I have had the truck into the dealer twice and they haven't fixed it. First time they said it was the steering stablizer so I changed it. (It was only six months old) The second time they told me it was air in the system and they bled it. This problem only happens every few days with no warning. Everything on the front end is tight and my tires are less than a year old. Do these trucks have problems with the steering boxes?
My fathers 99' F250 SD diesel has the same issue. It is going into the shop tomorrow. He almost cant even drive it. The steering wheel gets jerked side to side. He has about 175k miles on the truck. Did you have any luck with your issue?
Fortford ,How many miles on the truck? is the truck a 4x4?
Sounds like you need a new dealer or mechanic
tierod ends
Common ball joints,
Tires
rotors
wheel bearings (small needle bearings if 4x4)
front axle u-joints if 4x4

chk your own ball joints by jacking up oneside about 2-3 " off ground with tire still on put a 2x4 or pipe under tire and raise up see if there is any movement in the balljoint.

I just got it back from the dealer yesterday. Now they say that my front passenger side u-joint is siezed. They told me that this also took out my outer axle shaft, the needle bearings that it rides on and my manual hub. I had this front corner apart about 2 months ago and found nothing wrong. This weekend I will tear into again and see what I can find. The dealer qouted me $950 for the axle shaft(can't buy just the outer, have to buy both sections as a unit), $400 for the manual hub, and about another $75 for the bearing and seals. Keep in mind that this is in Canadian dollars.
