69 390FE is the best upgrade for your truck. Mighty hard to beat. Unless you do a lot of slow pulling, I'd go to a taller gear in the rear. That will increase you milage some to.

In the still cool hours of the night, you can hear chevys rusting away.
You didn't give a lot of detail on what you have now or what your goals are, better gas mileage or more performance or longivity(long life) but the usual items are better intake and exhaust and if you have an automatic trans, an oil cooler will help it live longer. Unless you're towing or hauling heavy loads your 3.50 gears should work well but you could always add a positrac unit. Anyway, with the lack of info on your truck I'm kinda shootin' in the dark. I've been working on Ford trucks for about 30 years as a hobby. I would be happy to share what I know. If you want to discuss it more e-mail wnelson@ptialaska.net
After trying several combos over the years, I have found the best truck combo to be as follows.
Edelbrock performer (not rpm) manifold...
Any Carter AFB off of a 383 Chrysler. Dodge or Plymoth car (Same as the Edelbrock carb offerings). They are easy to adapt to the Ford throtle linkage and are jetted near perfect. (Get a small Holly if you want a touch more power), but be warned, gas mileage will suffer substantually...
The Melling RV cam for the FE, (I know it dosn't sound as good as the brand names), is the best (and cheapest) available, set at zero centerline (or just toss it in)...
Any set of headers (I hate them, but it's a dramatic improvement with the other changes)...
Don't touch the rear end gearing...
You will be able to out pull the 460's and get 14 to 16 (unloaded) miles to the gallon! No joke. Just remember, less is more with an FE in a truck!
