Oil Pressure ???

I may or may not have a problem. I am unsure, so that's why I'm asking you guys.

So here's what I've got... 1967 F-100 4X4 with 1967 F-100 oil pressure gauge on instrument cluster. Brand new rebuilt 1994 351W carbed with old style oil pressure sending unit. Not sure what year the sending unit came off of, but could be a 65 or 66 mustang 289.

Here is what's happening... When engine starts up the oil pressure begins going up, which is good. It keeps going up until it hits the "H" on the gauge. It may even be pegging the gauge out, but I am unsure. I may have too much oil pressure or either the 67 gauge is not correctly calibrated to the sending unit.

What are your thoughts on this. Problem or no problem?

Where does your oil gauge needle normally sit while running?

Thanks for all the help.

I consider the ford sending unit to be a relative guage, all they really tell you is the change in oil pressure, not what it really is, and they aren't all that great doing that either; they seem to have a damped response. They also do odd things, I had one on an 87 302 Mustang that read fine at start up, then slowly fell off as you drove, talk about a heart attack maker.
Suggestion: get the right sending unit and also hook up a real guage temporarily. It is possible to make too much oil pressure, but its difficult to achieve.
All the new engines I've seen in Ford P/U's hit 70-90% of full scale. GL

I installed a Tee on the engine, with an oil filled gauge and the sending unit coming off the back.
