8 inch rear

I just got a rearend from a 67 Fairlane to use under my 56 F100. It is an 8 inch with 2.79 gears , which is what I wanted . Im wondering if I can update it with brakes off a later model, with wider shoes & drums. It now has 10 x 1.75 brakes. Can I put on 10 x 2 brakes without changing the axles ? I do not want discs.Thanks .
