fuel additive problems

I have been running the white bottle power service in my truck occasionally with no problems. I recently used the gray bottle power service. I used the double rate listed on the bottle. After putting that in my truck, I noticed that it started smoking whenever under a load. This occured every time i took off and shifted, but cleared once rpm's reached a certain point. I also experienced a lack of power. It would smoke bad, and buck under heavy acceleration. I filled the truck up today without any additives, and the smoke is gone. Anyone else experienced this problem?

Can't offer any advise but though it strange that no one jumped in to provide you any feedback.

Do you think maybe it was just a coincidence? Have you tried adding it to a new tank full?

Was the fuel from the same station?

Never heard of anyone having a fuel additive problem. At least not with Power Service. Even at double rate.

Could have possibly cleaned to much at one time and getting filter or fuel line blockage with fuel fecal matter. Speaking of filters, when did you change them last?

So are we saying the MPG will decrease with the additive?

I presume we are referring the the Gray bottle of Diesel Kleen .. I have been using for last 3 -4 tanks with no problems (see other threads here with more objective analysis) and infact see some small mileage improvements ... could be attributed to some other mods (new exhaust) done 2 weeks ago ... But for sure no adverse effects on performance ..

I was suprised with the mileage from that tank being as high as it was. - 17.0 MPG Thats in the range of what I usually get. I wondered about changing filters, they are close to needing changed. Next time I will just use the single rate.

I've never had any problems with PowerService (gray bottle) (as far as lack of power and excessive smoke, they all smoke when you floor it, right?) and will continue using it every other tank. I have been disapointed with the fuel savings that they claim however. I've kepts some pretty extensive records over the past few months on my MPGs with consecutive tanks with and without PowerService and have been dead on at 17.5 every fill up with a few exceptions of course based on side trips and some towing. So, I do think it is benificial as a fuel additive and will continue using it, but I don't believe there should be any claim to better MPGs, nor should anyone use it solely for that purpose. Any similar or differing experiences?

Whether it's diesel kleen or any other product I use it for the lubricity which is a must for our injectors..Any product is a small price to pay in the big picture...04, 22K miles no problems. Stanadyne in every tank..Good luck

I use the Power Service Silver same schedule every other tank. Mileage stays around 18.8 in town (Bully Dog Triple Dog). I just turned 94,000 miles with my 2004 250SD. 72K since the head bolts were done.

I started using additives about 10K ago. I certainly cannot compete with 18.8 in town but my mpg went up from an average 14.4 to 16.4. And considering my heavy foot (I use the Econonmy setting with my Superchips,) the additive pays for itself.
