First thanks for the great site and I have done search but not found what I'm looking for.The wife bought 04 E.B. with 22,000 miles in October 05. the rear gear set has been replaced twice the pinion came loose the second time the tire preasure sensors have been replaced the back up sensor system quit working the dealer admitted they could not fix it so they would just turn it off sorry no thats not going to happen took it to another dealer they got it fixed took two weeks. The muffler exploded got that replaced. Now to my questions the fog lamps or driving lights stay on all of the time unless you put the high beams on the dealers two of them say it is suppose to be that way we have looked at others and they don't stay on there is a switch on the head light switch you pull out to turn them on ours has this but it has know effect.Next issue the rear hatch paint is bubbling up around the ford emblem and thr lift handle area. She took to the dealers body shop they took pictures and said the hatch needs replaced they sent the pictures to Ford they sent back an ok to repaint the hatch I discussed this with the body shop people they said to call customer service i did they told me it was up to the dealer to push the issue for replacment of the hatch so i call the dealer back and they say it up to customer sevice to get an opinion from some one further up the ladder. So here i set not knowing what to do so if some one can give another number to ford other than the so called customer service number.Sorry for the book I just wanted to cover all of the bases we life long Ford buyers and Im starting to think maybe it is time to change Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, I can't help you with the other issues, but the fog lamps are supposed to turn off when you are running high beams. This is a federal requirement for the number of lamps which can be on is 4. High beam filament and Low Beam filament together on each side make 4. Add to that the fog lamps, and you aren't legal, so they shut off.
With them always staying on????? Do you have your headlights set to Auto?
Why do you care if you have it replaced or painted? Just paint it.
basically, you have to decide if it's worth the fight to get the hatch repainted or replaced...i went through a battle with ford in dearborn, mich and was told it was up to the dealer to provide the repairs i needed (a recall that i had been trying to get taken care of)...the dealer would tell me it was up to customer service...if the dealer decides to do the repaint, that may be your best bet

there is no law about how many lights can be on at once. the law states it can not exceed a certain wattage output. the high beams are at the legal wattage so the fog lights shut off. also the low beams do not stay on when the high beams are turned on. its a seperate circuit and only uses 2 high wattage bulbs one on each side.

The law only covers a single bulbs maximum wattage. Not both. Every state is different. My thoughts originally were that if you needed to use your brights, it pretty much defeated the use of the fog lamps because they are designed to be used in low visibility fog. You defeat the purpose of them when turning on your brights.
However, a police officer told me about the 4 lamp limit, so I just went with that, and thought it made sense. I guess I'll go back to my other "opinion" on the reason fog lamps turn off. Please post the link to your explanation, so that I can stop passing info on "he said, she said"
Wow, sure sounds like you got a problematic vehicle. But, as you've seen, the service department can make a world a difference in how well the issues are addressed. Sounds like your first shop was worthless and now you've found a better one... good!
On the fog light problem, you should be able to turn them off. If pushing the light switch/**** "in" doesn't turn the fogs off, have the shop test the switch. It may have failed in the ON position. If the switch tests ok, then you've wandered into the world of used vehicles and will have to figure out what the previous owner may have done to keep the lights on all the time. Some people like the "look" and will bypass the factory design in one of several methods. Sadly, this a risk you take when buying USED vehicles.
As for the rear hatch, it seems unlikely that "bubbling paint" warrants a full replacement of the door. Not sure I'd want that anyway- more stuff for the body shop to mess up by removing/installing the panel vs just taping off the area and repainting it.
However, if there is RUST on the door that is causing the paint to 'bubble', then the body shop needs to alert Ford to that fact and work with them to get a replacement. A picture just isn't going to work... they need to fully explain what they (the body shop) have found.
Thanks for the information. The fog lamp problem is they stay on all of the time like day time driving lights they only go off when you turn the high beams on. The headlight switch you can pull it out and push it in but it does nothing the dealer does not know why. I will let you know how the paint issue turns out.
