Occasionally the starter on my 88 F250, 4X4, 5.8L won't disengage. Even if I take the key out of the ignition the starter continues to crank. This only happens a couple times a year. I can drive for months with no problems, then suddenly it does it again. It even engaged once while I was driving home from work. I had to pull over and disconnect the battery.
The ignition switch was replaced by Ford a few years ago because it became almost impossible to turn, so I don't think this is the problem. Could it be the relay switch (I think that's what its called) located on the passenger side fender? or the starter itself. Any input would be helpful. Thanks.
