I pulled plugs 1,2,5, and 6 (yes... the easy ones) today just to check their condition and gaps and noticed that two of the four COPs had a metal insert in the middle of the coil. I doubt any of the COPs are original parts because I'm the second owner and have high mileage.
Anyone ever notice this difference between COPs or have an explanation for it?
If they are original, they will have a motorcraft sticker on the top of the Coil, and they will have FORD on the boot. You can replace the boot separately, so your boot may or may not have Ford on the boot.
Advance Auto has a similar coil, but it has a spring that wraps around the top of the spark plug instead of the Ford design that has a metal tip. Also, the aftermarket for AA design changed and now has a gray coil and black boot. I'm assuming that many people were returning OEM Ford stuff after buying just one coil. No aftermarket parts should say Motorcraft or have a Ford symbol on them.
I know that NAPA, Autozone and Carquest all sell Coils as well, I'm assuming from different manufacturers.
