I just returned from a 4000 mile trip. Truck ran great. Took along a complete OC in a box in the back incase I wanted to get it done during the trip. Didn't quite make 5K mile so I waited...At home was a card from my normal service dealer, Sunset Ford in Westminster, Ca. offering an OC for 79.95 an $5 off a tire rotation so I brought it in. (22K on the truck 01-04 build)
I left a note on the dash for the tech not to put over 13 quarts in the truck because it's such a pain in the a-- to get the 1-1/2 quart overfill the 15 does. In about 1hr I got a call from the service writer concerning the 13 qts and how Ford said 15. I told him my reasons, got some typical Ford lip but they did what I wanted..
When I picked up the truck, the questions began again and they made sure they wrote I only would allow the 13 quarts...
#1. I told then their teck worked on "flag time" and I'd bet they never allowed the truck to completly drain.
#2 The Teck more than likely did not take the filter out first to let it drain back.
#3. I bet them the truck was not fully warm and after I drove the truck home 10 miles on the freeway that I probably would not be able to put in a full quart to bring it to the mid line where it really belongs.
They just did not to listen about the over filling so I paid, left and when I got home checked the level and sure enough added 1/2 qt and it came right to the midline.. Just some Ford fun
PS: Just before I left on the trip I got a letter from the dealer asking to buy it back because of the low miles......
I have never attempted to let anyone change the oil other than myself. After the hassle and crap you received, I don't think I will ever let someone else change the oil. If you told them 13 quarts and they were good techs, they would of understood and granted your request without the hassle.
I have a good story as well. I took mine in for an oil change (I usually do it myself) as well. The tech begins to explain that I had excessive miles on the vehicle causing the oil filter to twist inside the housing. Mind you I had put 6000 miles on this oil change since Feb. Not exactly excessive. I also explained the 7500 miles recommended from Ford. I explained the tech did'nt know what he was talking about and will never go back. I don't know about you but the oil filter isn't going to "twist" inside the housing.
My last 2 oil changes the filter looked like it did twist a little, one change was a little over the 5000 miles and the last one was a little under the 5000 miles. My truck has 86,000 miles and I never noticed it happening before these 2 changes.
You might be twisting it when you install it....Oil all the ends prior to putting on the cap smear oil on the inside of the cap too..I also soak mine in new oil when I do it myself...Good Luck
