Ok this is a first on this part of the forum for me so please be patient with me. I have a '01 kenwood flip face head unit. About 3-4 yrs ago ish the unit died, sent it to kenwood repair facility and they fixed it $100.00 later. Ouch. I liked the radio then and didn't mind fixing it (should have just bought a new one). They said the wiring strap that feeds the face wore out from flipping over all the time when the truck is turned off. Guess what here we are again, radio dead and it appears to be doing the same thing as before. So my question is, is there a fix for this reoccurring problem other than a new head unit? If the answer is new head unit what brand/model doesn't have this kind of problem? I keep vehicles for awhile and get tired of changing out head units. I don't have all the amps and huge system. I just want quality sound/proformance. I also don't feel like spending a lot of money right now. Any suggestions folks?
When I was a KW rep. back a few years...about when these flip faces were the big thing (and just coming out) . KW would never let me "repair" these, but to only swap it out with the same or similar unit. Then send the defective unit back.
Then I got out of KW, I was loosing my customer base for the same problem you are having and a few others. (they also had some internal mechanical issues)
Then I went to being a "installer/rep" for Pion. products. I'll still deal with them on occasion, but its been a while (other moonlighting).
I personally have a thing for JVC and even own a few. Only if JVC needed a authorized product rep....
Have you spoke with KW about this issue? They may cut you a break for the 2nd repair if you want to go through with it. When I left KW they did not have a "DIY" fix for this issue..
I know there are a lot of websites out there having clearance sales and model-end discounts for some really good nearly new or brand-new units such as Blaupunkt, JVC, Pioneer...
Crutchfield comes to mind...I would even google for automotive stereos/radios etc.
thanks 99trigger. I think I'm just gonna go with a new unit. Probably a JVC. I've had Pioneers, they were ok. The people I've talked to around here where I live about this agree with you as far as the who to go with. I will do that search you were talking about. THANKS
