Greetings. My son and I just installed a CPP reverse hood hinge kit to our 54'. When we have the hood adjusted so all the gaps are good, the hood drags on the cowl lacing when it being opened. Does anyone have the same thing happening? The hood is the orignal steel. Also what about putting gas cylinders on this set up to aid in opening?
You can adjust the back side rails of the kit to better clear the lacing before it seats or take the lacing out, but the easiest way to fix the problem is to cut down the return flange on the rear edge of the hood to clear the lacing.
I would recommend against the gas struts, although I use themm on my home-brewed frobt tilt setup. Your kit should work fine without them.
I know this is off the subject but has any one tried this on a 48 with a metal / orignal hood. I wondered how usability was or if it is more of a pain then anything ealse. I thought it would be slick to have a reverce hood on my truck but I see I would probibly need to fabricate a hinge system.
Let me know if any one had done this and if the hood is more in the way or better off.
MrF-1,
I was at a car show recently and saw a 50 F1 with a reverse opening hood. It looked OK I guess. I didn't pay much attention to the hinge set up though and I didn't have my camera with me so I didn't take a pic.
It would be a bit tougher on the 48-52 trucks as the hood would have to slide quite a bit forward to have clearance for the front of the hood to rotate down. The hoods on our 48-52 trucks seem to open farther and stay up better than the 53-56 trucks so its not as hard to get in there and wrestle with the engine.
