My transmission seems to stay in 2nd gear longer than it should, only when starting from a stop at the bottom of a good steep hill pulling a load of around 8000 lbs. After the hill starts to level off, the transmission still stays in 2nd until I let off the pedal somewhat.. Is this normal? It has acted this way I think, since it was new. There's 67K on the truck..Oil and filter has been changed recently. What do you think, guys?
Mine did that same thing before I lost second gear altogether. I was drving through my neighborhood unloaded, heard a loud bang and clunk, then found I had to accelerate, then let off the gas in order to get second gear and into OD. I'd have your tranny checked out because I got a bad feeling yours is about to do what mine did. The one way clutch in mine went and took the rest of my transmission with it. Check out the TSBs and should be able to find one regarding the said issue.
Well, I think it should hold a lower gear as long as your foot is in the throttle, but if you've got to come way off the throttle, Toreador may be right. My trans never actually went out, but it was 2nd gear that I felt getting really mushy.
