Transmission Q

I have a 99 XLT Ranger 4x4 supercab with the 4.0 L...What auto trans do I have? It is starting to slip and knock really bad, and I want to either replace or rebuild. I have competed a VIN search, but no details on my specific tranny. Any info and/or advice is welcome!

You should have the 5R55E 5 speed automatic transmission. I do believe you'll need another 4x4 one.

Gracias Rangerpilot, I had guessed the 4R55E...What would be the difference in that one and the 5R55E? Is one a 4 speed and the other a 5 speed.

Yup, the 5R55E is a 5 spd auto od tranny & if you have a 99 4x4 & the tranny is oem, it's the 5R55E.

The switch from the four speed to five speed auto in the 4.0L was made in '97, just in case for some strange reason you cared...
