I wasing coming home from Chicago to Michigan this past weekend and while on I-94 at highway speed cleared the MPG indicator and for the next 150 miles I averaged 13.5 miles per gallon. I thought that wsa pretty good since I only have 3,000 miles on my V10 2006 KR. I had the croise set at 72 MPH.
I'd say that's pretty good compared to my 12mpg average. Though I think Capt. Charlie did a little better on his trips to the dragstrip the other week. And for some reason, this last tank of fuel that I got Friday 6/30/06, I've gotten horrible mileage. At least according to my fuel gauge. Anyway, yeah I'd love to get 13 plus. Congrats dude!!
I think that your 12 combined is pretty good. remember I set my guage while already at highway speed to get 13.5. My highway city combined prior to that was 11.4. It might be a little better now that I have a few miles on it.
Oops, I didn't realize you set it while cruising. Again, we see what happens when I don't thoroughly read the thread. Thanks for picking up my error. I'd guess though, you should see some improvement over the next 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Anyway, good luck and thanks for the info.
It works like this. A CC 4x4 LB like mine is under engined with a 5.4 and will get less mileage than a V10.
My younger brother bought a black '05 F250 CC 4x4 LB with the 5.4 and auto late last year. Said it was what he really wanted. When I was spec'ing mine out and reading these forums, he wouldn't listen to my rationale for purchasing a hard to get V10.
When we talk now about trucks, it nearly kills him. He and I get the same mileage. He started looking at fivers and travel trailers after I got my fifth wheel, and he is pretty darn limited in towing...F250, 5.4, CC, 4x4, LB...?
well just as a #'s thing here are the comparisons. if you have a 8-9000lb truck, you want torque to help push that weight. compare the V8 to the V10 in torque and there is your answer. and the bad thing is that most V8 SD's don't come w/ a lower gear ratio (higher #) to compensate for the lack of power.
there has been alot of gear changes that i've read about w/ the V8's that guys have done. from what i read they go to a 4.56, and some go to a 4.88 to compensate. they are running anything from a 33"-36" tire w/ that gear combo, and loving it from what i understand.
like i said that's just what i've read, i don't own a SD w/ a V8 and NEVER would unless the V8 is a PSD.

yomow-just hit the reset button when the avg mpg screen is showing in the info screen.i've got a 05 ext cab v10 w/4.10's and have gotten a best of 14.1 hand calculated on the highway,75-80 with ac on.
On mine (05 CC 4.10) the AC takes about 1-2 mpg off my total. In my truck the in dash mpg thing is pretty close to hand calculated. I like to have the windows down anyway. it was like 99 degrees this weekend and I still was driving around with the windows down, my wife hates it.
I just do not like being all sealed up, I am used to bikes and jeeps and It is tough enough just having a roof overhead (I should have gotten the moonroof, the only thing I would change!)
I get about 11.5- 12 mixed. I drive with my foot in it allot. I found that if I get on it I do not use that much more gas. In just stop and go traffic it can get as low as 9 and the best I have ever gotten, thurway station to station was almost 15. From what I have found the AC will use more fuel then my foot (AC -> 1-2 mgs Foot -> .5 - 1.25 mpgs). I do not drag race from light to light but on the tollway 75-80 is normal (I try not to get to 90 too often). I think even when I take it easy I still am not going as easy as some!
Ever since I got my '99 F250 CC SB 4X4 in April I have had rare opportunity to measure highway mileage since I've either been towing the camper or piddling back and forth two miles to work and back. Last week I took her on an empty road trip (2 lane road 55mph speed limit, cruise set at 63mph, 100 degrees F, A/C running on MAX) and calculated my mileage at 13.7 MPG. My '96 Tahoe I had previously would only get 14.5 on its best day. I was very happy with the mileage.
