tranny cooler help

I just ordered a 6.0 tranny cooler from ebay after reading a bunch of posts on it. Have a couple of quick questions. First i went to home depot and looked for the 3/8 to 1/2 inch barbed fitting that everyone used. The only one they carry is a cheap looking plastic one, is this the one that everyone used or did they use a brass one because of the temps. where can i find the brass one if it's what i need. Also what hose was used. I believe i read high temp heater hose, is this correct. Any other suggestions are appreciated. as always thanks in advance.

i dont have any help there for the hose or cooler, but i did pick up some 3/8" brass thread to barbed nipple at Lowes today. one for the fuel block, and two for the reducer to the Dahl. found out i have the wrong size reducer for the Dahl, so i guess i will have to take it in to lowes.. get some odd looks...

I saw the barbed to threaded fittings. I thought there might be a single peice 3/8 to 1/2 barbed on each side. Maybe everyone just used the barbed to threaded with a coupling between them? Thanks maybe that's what i'll have to do but have a couple of days to see.

Stupid question here, but here goes. Does the existing barbed fitting come off of the cooler. I'm also wondering what exactly a 3/8 to 1/2 barbed fitting adapter looks like.

I can picture unscrewing a fitting and replacing it, but I'm not sure if this is what's needed.

Thanks

I'm not sure if the barbed fitting unscrews from the cooler cause i just ordered it and was trying to get the parts together for when i get it. From the pics on ebay it looks like the barbed is part of the cooler. I just read that people were using a "3/8 to 1/2 barbed adaptor". I saw a coupler at home depot that was 1/2 to 1/2 barbed on both sides and also 3/8 to 3/8 barbed coupler and thought there would be 3/8 barbed on one side and 1/2 barbed on the other side. I found one like that in a cheap plastic but thought it probally wasn't good at 200 degrees so looking for a brass one now. Thanks

I just used a fitting that has a 3/8 in barb on one end and another fitting with a 1/2 in barb on the other end. The trick is that one of these fittings has to have male thread and the other female. Teflon tape it and that is your adapter. Repeat.

This is what i did, works great. Don't forget your hose clamps. I think the thread size was 1/4" NPT
for each fitting. Yes,,,the 1/2" barbed fittings on the cooler are part of it.

I don't know if there in your neck of the woods but napa had a good choice of brass fittings. I belive I put a couple of 90s on mine so the hose would not hang down. You will love the bigger cooler.

I got the fitting from home depot like you said and teflon tapped them together. thanks. The last thing i need to get, hopefully is the 1/2 inch hose from the cooler to tlhe adapter. "What kind do i need to get for that kind of pressure and temperature. I have read that high temp heater hose will work. is this correct. Thanks for all the help

I also am installing a extra tranny cooler in my 99 PSD. The instructions say to put the cooler in series on the return line to the tranny! My question is can someone here tell me which line is the return line?? Thanks

The return line is the one more towards the rear of the tranny.
