Not starting, need advice

my 87 econoline has been sitting for about a year. last year i bought last minute and my band toured in it, and while i was gone we always had the battery be dead sometimes and sometimes not die. and thoughout the time i had the van sometimes the starter would not enguage and just make a "spin" sound but eventually would start

I try starting it the other day with a new battery and terminal, starts right up after a few spins of the starter, but the battery isnt chargine. I cant find a alternater fuse, but i see fusable links under the hood idk how to test those or change them?

So i have two problems first the battery not charging, and now when im trying to start the van with a charged battery it seems to just turn the engine a little and makes a thud noise, could i have the wrong battery?

If it has removable caps, make sure the water level is filled to the proper level. You probably need a new battery by the sounds of it.

Sounds like a new starter is needed.

If your alternator is always deep charging a bad battery, it kills the alternator.

You can take all three items to a store such as www.advanceautoparts.com and have them tested for free so you do not throw your money away, if you are tight on money.

Happy 4th!
