a/c quit

Angry a/c quit

I turned on the air and in afew seconds the belt was smoking. It seems to stuck or not turning. This site has helped me before, And hope it will again.

Well by what you've said it sounds like your compressor said BLUH (it puked, died, kicked the bucket). Luckily mine hasn't but it's not a cheap fix cuz them environmental people don't want you to just open up a valve and drain the freon out into the air (they say it's a bad thing). So you'll need to find some one with a vaccuum pump to suck the air out after the new compressor is installed. Good luck.

With everything off see if the front of the unit will turn, next take the belt off and see if the pulley turns, if pulley turns compressor is locked up. If front of clutch turns and not the pulley you only need a bearing, and you don't even need to open the system to change it. Just take the center nut out pull the clutch faceplate off remove snap ring and pull pulley off. Install new bearing in pulley re install.

Thanks for the fast info, I took the belt off and then the front clutch and the pulley don't move, Hope it;s a bearing. Thanks alot you guys for the help.
