You need to get a XF trans from a 4x4 460 set up. I for got what the first year was for the ZF trans but it's around 87 or 88 and was offered until the mid 90's. This is as close as you will get to a bolt in application.
You will have to fab a hyd clutch set up or modify the trans to accept the stock clutch linkage. I will be taking the route of the HYD clutch but haven't gotten that far yet. heres a link to some pics of the ZF getting mocked up in the chassis. http://home.comcast.net/~grabblue65/78Bronco.html
Thanks for your help. I'll look around for a ZF. I'm not very good at doing all the fab stuff. So tihs might not work for me but if its my only option then I guess I'll have to try and do a whole motor/trany swap.
Yeah, just get a hydraulic clutch and plumb in the cylinders. Much easier than trying to make a redneck mechanical linkage setup. Make sure you don't get a ZF that was behind a diesel. It will bolt up, but the gear ratios are better suited for a diesel and won't work as well with a gas motor.
