Four out of five surveyed say it must be a 3.00:1. Who knows when it may have been changed. I appreciate the follow-up.

Here's the scoop. Dad says the truck was making a whrrrring or growling kind of noise right after he got it whenever he let off the gas and let it coast. The dealer checked (and changed) a bunch of stuff trying to get rid of it but never was successful. Guess what? He swapped the gears out in the rear end. They probably left the tag off the case since it no longer matched the insides. Who knows what the noise was that caused all the trouble. It probably just didn't sound like the '51 Chevy he traded in. Couldn't have been much wrong--it only ran for 31 years.
And yep, John, it has a 360/c6.
You know, you guys may not let me come over and play for this, but I'd keep that '51 Chevy if it was still around. DB
