Hi everybody, I guess most of you are sick of discussing the cackle & knocking story. I live ein Australia where we have only been able to buy the Brazilian built 7.3 psd. Mine is less than a year old and a couple of months ago immediatly after an oil change the knocking started and has gradually got worse. It cackles a little but not bad.
I have read many theories and solutions to this problem but has there been any effective long term solution proveen yet. I realy love this truck but the noise is really getting to me.
Will be taking it to the dealer soon but not expecting much as they have been useless to date and I wouldnt even let them change the oil in it.

Try posting this question the 7.3L diesel forum. You'll get more answers about your diesel there.
Thanks for the input guys. Oil and filter are as per ford spec. Just changed oil again, this time to a full synthetic. Now much quiter but there still is a knock at idle. Sometimes very noticable and other time almost non existent.
I have read many old posts about knock and cackle on early 7.3 psd and various possible cures. Was just wondering if anybody ever found a solution. I will take it back to the dealer but would like to know what the solution was for this problem as I suspect they will tell me that this noise is normal.
Just a quick note guys. Although my truck is a 2006 model you must remember it has the old 7.3 turbo motor which I believe you havnt seen since 2003. This Model and motor are still being built in brazil and were sold here up to recently in RHD configuration.
If you have the same fuel delivery system that the US model trucks have, then it's a good change you have a lot of air being sucked into the fuel at the quick disconnects between the fuel tank and the fuel pump inlet. Simply changing out those connections for some basic fuel line and band clamps will eliminate 90% of that problem and get you a vast improvement in the way the engine sounds.
Too bad the US government won't allow those excellent engines to be sold here in the US anymore.

Fuel pump is electric, tank mods look interesting. Just wondering if ford after all these years have also done this mod. I will remove the tank soon and check. They have elliminated the quick connect fittings pre pump but used one just after the pump.
Thanks for your help and yes I will get some photos soon. Remember this truck is the one you guys had from 97-03. As it is the only one ford produced in RHD. It is still built in Brazil but no longer available here due to emmission rules. So at present we dont have big ford to choose from or anything else for that matter in big trucks. The japs dont make them that big.
Ford may import the new f trucks but not as yet, I believe it will be TWIN TURBO 6.4?
