Bronco not starting/running

So my 89 Bronco is killin me. It was acting like it had transmission problems, shuddering really bad, wouldnt shift, couldnt find a gear taking off from a red light, but now it seems electrical. I had it towed home a week and a half ago because it was slipping so badly. I got it home and it ran just enough to get it into its parking space, cut it off and when I went to start it again 2 hours later it wouldnt start. Went back and tried it again the next day, crank, crank, crank, no start. Did that 3 more times through the week. Gave up on it for another week, went out today and cranked it over, started right up, then died. Started again and ran, feathering the throttle for about a minute or 2 and then started loping really bad. Got worse and worse till it finally wouldnt run anymore and wouldnt start again. I havent seen a post dealing specifically with this, but there are a few that sound simmilar (TFI, Fuel pump relay, coil??). Do those sound reasonable or is it something different, has anyone had this happen before?? Any help would be awesome.

You need to check for codes before doing anything else. Check the inertia switch. Could also be the fuel pump relay. When you turn the key forward before start, do you hear the fuel pump kick on?

Yes the fuel pump sounds like its running fine. Each time I turn the key over it runs for a second or 2. I dont have a pressure gauge but i poked one of the schraders on the rail and gas shot out, which says to me its still getting adequite pressure.

Check the fuel filter, maybe choking off the fuel, you may be getting a little fuel though when cranking but not enough to run.

Yeah it sounds like a fuel problem, so you should check the pressure and for codes.

just got my '90 Bronc three months ago and had a similar problem about three weeks into it... four different times the Bronc wouldnt start after i had driven it some few miles and stopped. often i left it sitting overnite and it started fine, then (seemed to wait for the wkend) it wouldnt start again. ford dealership charged me $300 to check codes and r/r two relays. happened again (wouldnt start) and i had a specialist check it for a sweet (including a muffler replacement) $900 fuel pump replacement. Bronc runs fine now (I-6/300ci) and the 5spd manual is great for economy too. what started as a $700 bargain has become an emotional/financial attachment, but i love her anyway. still need to restring the e-brake and front driveshaft. so it goes...

Check codes! It costs NOTHING to pull them. It can be accomplished with a PAPERCLIP! A Haynes manual or www.fordfuelinjection.com will yeild answers as to the procedure. The onboard computer is designed to feedback info when there is an issue. Unless you like the idea of chasing a bunch of things that MIGHT be the problem before you find the actual culprit, this should be the first step as masseysbronco suggested.

Assuming that the fuel pressure is correct at the rail by virtue of fuel being released while the system is under pressure isn't a good practice nor a good indicator of the actual pressure. Hate to sound like a nay-sayer here but the methods for analyzing the symptoms are pretty straight forward. Other methods just aren't accurate enough to adequately diagnose the problem. Fuel pressure without the engine running should be between 35 and 45 psi (30-45 psi with it running) for your 351. Anything less can result in a lag in delivery to the injectors and the injectors merely open and close so without the proper pressure behind them perfomance will suffer.
