I'm slowly but surely getting and puttting all the parts together for my power front disks. I ordered new bushings for the i-beams (off a '78)and radius arms and the catalog said I needed to reuse my existing "shells". Well, I tore the old rubber bushings out and didn't run across anything I'd call a shell. There was an insert inside the rubber bushing, but I'd figure a shell goes on the outside. Am I wrong or is something missing?
There is a stamped sheetmetal piece that the rubber is bonded to, that is pressed into the I-beam. It is "rolled " to form a "T" shape on one side and the other sticks out straight. This is the the shell you need when using the poly bushings, if you're going to use stock bushing then they come with the shell.
Dan: Use stock bushings from your local parts store. I can assure you that you will not be able to remove the old shells from the I Beam without destroying them. New stock bushings come with the shells (metal shell, rubber bushing, metal bolt carrier). The Poly bushings people buy don’t have shells, you are supposed to re-use the originals. Forget about it! Send them back and get a refund. Or buy new stock bushings and harvest the shells.
