ok my buddy is selling his truck and im not sure if i should buy it. i want it but it comes with its own project involved. ok about the truck..its a 1986 f250. it was repainted about 2 years ago. its a dark blue with gold flake. some scratches here and there but no rust. so its pretty heavy duty. it is 351w with c-6 trans and 4x4. it has a 10.25 rear. dana 44 front. it has a 6 inch lift with 35x14.50x16.5 super swamper thornbirds with about 75% tread on micky thompson classic 2 16.5x10 inch rims. he prject is that it needs new piston rings because it cracked on and blows oil now. i can do the work myself and everything is carbed so i could do it in 2-3 days and be done. he wants $1500 but comes with stock rims and tires or $2500 with the thornbirds and classic 2's..i know it will clear 38x14.50 thornbirds because its had them on it before but i just want to keep 35s. what would you do
If it were me, I'd pass on that deal. If he wanted $1500 for it with the tires, it might be worth it. But $2500 with the tires AND you have to basically rebuild the motor, no thank you.

Only if you really like the truck I bought my 86 F250 for 1500 and it had a busted rear axle, but man I fell in love with it when I seen it and had to have it!
Well, considering I picked up my diesel with a little rust, but not too bad and aluminum rims for $1850, I would have ahard time dishing out that much and have to yank the motor right off... but if the body is completely clean, it does help out a bit in justifying it. Perhaps Nathane has the right idea... Cracked or broken rings can and do happen, and oil consumption follows, and windsor parts are cheap and easy to come by...
I got a question about this truck. Did your friend have the axles regeared to turn those 35's/38's, or has he just been killing the 351 to turn those tires with the original gears. Reason I ask is because I had a bronco with a 351W, had 35's with no lift and no gears, it was so tired, I put 31's on it, and it still couldn't get out of it's own way. If he hasn't you will wear out the motor again after you rebuild it, or thats another $1500 you have to spend on gears. Something else to think about.
yea the truck actually had the gears put in it before the lift was ever put on. the only rust in the body is right above the pass. side wheel well and its only started to rust right at the chrome trim piece. i cant get any pics tho but pinwheel-its a c6 auto
I have to agree.I should have passed on my truck and saved a little more $$$ and got a better truck.I bought mine for $1500.00 and spent almost a $1,000.00 since Feb and have only driven it about 300 miles.I bought this truck to carry my wheelchair so I could get out of the house.I have pic's in my gallery.
