90 f150 hard shift problem
Hello, I have a 1990 f150 w/ a straigt six and a auto trans (e40d ?) it has 77,000 original miles, this thing shifts very hard into 2nd and 3rd gear, a frind of a friend who's a ford trans guy said its not the trans and offered to throw it on a machine to check diognostics, unfortunatly, I cant drive the truck because it has no plates or insurance, I got the truck from my dad who cant drive anymore and I want to fix it and sell it for him..and suggestions, I did hook it up to a snap- on diognostic tool today and got code 29 "open circuit in speed sensor" but I believe that's a wheel speed sensor for the rear abs and don't think thats going to solve my problem. any suggestions on the hard shift ???? Thanks

The speed sensor also tells the vehicle the speed and thus, tells the tranny when to shift. It causes hard/no shifts depending on it's condition. I'd suggest replacement of the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) on the rear diff, should fix your problem.
