replacing motor

I'm going to be replacing the motor in my 89 F150 5.0 EFI 4x4 AOD in a few weeks. Is there anything special/different I should know before I dig into this job? I've done replacements before, but this is the first time I've done it on a 4x4 truck.
I currently have some excessive blowby, oil fouling plugs in #1 & 5 cyl. oil fouling airfilter, loses oil pressure at idle. basicly the motor is just plain wore out.
Thanks

If you've done it before, than you already have a good idea of what's involved. You'll probably want to leave the tranny and transfer case in the truck and pull just the engine, and of course being EFI there are a bunch of wires and vacuum lines to be marked to make reassembly go smoother. Really not a bad job at all.

take lots of pics to help with putting hoses and plugs back in the correct locations. so are you doing a stock replacement or a 5.8 upgrade?

This is going to be a stock replacement, on a budget. I'll be getting a long block assy from Napa for $1300. I was origionaly going to have it rebuilt, but the cost was prohibitive. (local shops wanted 4 grand and up to do the job) I don't have the facilities to rebuild it myself, (I'll be using a friends driveway for the replacement, but his wife says I can use it for 1 week only) The longblock comes with a 3 yr unlimited milage warrenty, and all gaskets nessessary for the install.

The EFI plugs and harness is really easy, You cannot plug something in wrong. Each plug set is unique and will not plug into the wrong plug. Vacuum hoses, now that's a bit harder, but you'll figure it out.

I figured it would take me about a week, but it ended up being more like a month. I had to buy some parts I wasn't expecting, like a flywheel and an exhaust manifold. It also took me longer because I didn't know how to do certain things, like get the harmonic balancer off.
