460 problems leaking oil
Hi i have a 1978 f150 with a 460 on it i think the heads are from 71 or 72 and then blcok from 70. IT running very rough, it has oil dripping down the fly whell, sometime squirting a good amount. After not starting the truck for several days it wont turn over, the starter trys to turn, but the engine seems like it is locked up. If it does start it will die if given a lot of gas, it also sounds like i may be missing 1 or more cylinders. Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about taking care of this engine? especially figuring out the oil leak problem?

Check to see if the oil pressure low light switch behind the intake manifold is cracked or leaking. The part is less then $10 at most auto stores. The oil gallery it is tapped into supplies oil to the valve train and cam if memory serves me correctly. As for getting it started and not dieing on you it sounds like you need a basic tune up. Replace the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. That will run you roughly $50 with a desent set of plug wires. Next check to see if the starter cable is corroded from the solenoid to the starter. The corrosion will kill the amount of amperage that is required to turn the starter. Just a few things to get you going in the right direction.
