My AC seems to work OK while I'm idling or under 1300-1400 RPM's, but anything over that it blows nothing but warm air. Any ideas? I know nothing about vehicle A/C systems, but I'm smart enough to use one of those re-charge kits. Is that a good place to look? Not really sure where I should start so any ideas are greatly appreciated.
If you need to use one of those recharge kits, you have a refigerant leak somewhere.
Try this, with the engine running and warm, and the A/C on full (Max) after a while put your hand on the A/C hoses one should be warm the other should be quite cold, also see if the A/C compressor clutch is engaging, if it isn't then your refigerant is low or nonexistant and you have a leak, other than that check the fan belt that runs the compressor, maybe it's just loose and at high rpm it's slipping.
No that isn't normal, with the engine running you should see the A/C compressor clutch cycling on and off on a hot day it should cycle I would say at least 2 or 3 times in a minute, more if you put the A/C on max and full output, You should also look for a can that the a/c lines go to it should have a small glass peep hole on top, use a flash light and shine it into the glass you should see bubbles. but if the a/c compresser isn't cycling properly then you probably have a refigerant leak, and you will have to take it in for service so they can drain the system down and then use nitrogen to locate the leak.
