I have a 2002 ranger with the 2.3 5speed manual. I've noticed lately that my lights will flicker rapidly on/off during the daylight. I could see the reflection in traffic from the rear of cars in front of me. My headlights work normal though. I tried resetting the computer by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes but the problem still exists. It is not a constant thing, it seems to arrive and stop at random.
If I understand you correctly, is it only the back lights that flicker? If so, check the ground connections for the back lights. One other possibility, does it have a wiring harness/connector for a trailer? If so, check the wiring for chaffing, and open up the connector and look for corrosion
Bob, i think its his front headlights that he notices off the rear-end of vehicles in front of him. I still agree with your idea of checking connectors/grounds and some basic wire chasing. That would be where I would start...
Orrr... did you have a DRL module "fudged" in after purchasing the truck? maybe that's on the fritz or it has a bad connection?...
I was also thinking maybe the mutlifunction sw. may have gone haywire too, but you'd notice the "flickering" hi-beams at night.

It's the front running lights and will do it at random, however, it does it most after starting the vehicle and in traffic. I purchased the truck new. I checked the trailer harness but can't find and damaged wire.
