Question '78 f-100 starting problems

I just bought a '78 f-100 for $350. i bought it for rims and tires, but the guy said it ran when he parked it so i thought what the heck i might as well try to drive it. When trying to jumpstart it it just turns over slowly and i can't get it to start. i don't want to spend alot of money on it but what could the problem be? thanks

Are you sure the battery in the truck is good enough to be jump started? The engine should turn over faster than "slowly". I usually take a known good battery from a running truck and put it in the truck I'm trying to start so I know I have enough power. Give it a small shot of starting fluid into the carb, it will speed up the process.

When my batt. died this is how we did it, (and we jumped it with a corolla). We made sure there were really good connetions, turned off all the electronics, floored the corolla, waited 30secs and then started it and prayed.

make sure all your terminals are clean, and all the connections are good and not rusted.
