I am going to purchase one of the above soon for my 05 PSD. I have driven a truck like mine with the Cat back, and liked the difference. Does anyone have a feeling for how much additional gain with the Turbo back? How hard is the down pipe to install?
I guess the question is how much work you want to put into a system. How much performance in the future you are anticipating. A cat back is fine, your dealer will be happy, if your area has vehicle inspections you will retain the cat in either system. No one is offering a high performance cat, though I may be wrong on that, so porting of the catalytic converter is required.
I removed my down pipe in one piece, this requires a fair amount of work. You can simply cut the down pipe and remove it faster. Installation is straight forward and easy to do with a friend helping.
Both systems will give you a new sound and lower temperatures. The most gain in lowering temperature are seen with the turbo back.
You'll find that a cat back gets you an average of 85% of the EGT drop ands spool up that a turbo back gets you. If you get an MBRP or AFE system they are the only ones that have a factory style bolt in cat design that keeps the EPA and the dealers happy on their turbo backs. The down pipe on a turbo back is larger, mandrel bent and flows better overall. Call us if you have any questions we'll be glad to help you.
