auto hub swap (torque) ??

swapping my auto hubs out for some warn premium manual hubs on my 87 f-150. I was wonding about torgueing the spindle nuts. I think I read some where that the first nut on is 50flbs and the lock nut is 150flbs, If I remember correctly I troqued the lock nut on my 77 f-150 4x4 to 150 flbs and before I reached 150flbs the lock nut started to turn the bearing nut, that retainer washer between the two nuts started to cut into the threads. does 150flbs seem like too much torque for that lock nut. any input on this swap would be greatly appreciated. thanks

150 lb-ft sounds like WAY too much.

I usually do it by feel. I tighten the inner nut on until I get a good amount of bearing drag. Not too much or you'll burn them up, of course. Then the washer, and then I tighten down the outer nut firmly - maybe 50 lb-ft or so?

On the Ford light trucks, it is usually 50 foot pounds, then backing them off and then torquing them forward at 20-30 pounds. The inner nut is usually the one torqued to the higher #. Sometimes both are the same value (straight axles). It varies depending on the axle and year. You have to go my the manual and not guess.

The only ones I have seen 150 and higher on the lighter trucks are the Aerostars and even they vary from 150-180 depending on year.
