My hubs are stuck in auto and I am unable to turn them. I can take the truck in and out of 4wd but can't turn the hubs from auto to lock. Any suggestions?
Pull the hubs off. Just squeeze the two extensions on the lock ring; you'll see them as soon as you look at the area around the edge of the hub. Pull the ring out and the hub just slides out. If it sticks in there, have someone rock the truck (just push it a little) and the hub will pop out.
Soak the hubs in ATF for a few hours and clean them up good. Should solve your problem. If you need more info, read this:
All I had to do to remove the hub was take out the 3 torx screws but once in hand I didn't notice any lock ring . I'll go pull it back off and look again. Also after looking at some the other threads you sent I'm a little confused. I thought the transfer case was electric shift but I was thinking the hubs were only to engage once torque was sent through the driveshaft to the diff? Am I better off replacing these auto hubs if they're prone to failure??Truck only has 11000 miles so it's under warr. I just hate going to the dealership.
Those torx screw only hold on the cap, not the entire hub body. The hub body can be dissassemble once removed. But if you only took out the screws, all you removed was the cover and the ****.
I believe the 04 is the last year with that hub design. The 05' & up has 2 inner/outer splined gears as well as thrust washers and the **** itself comes out as well as the cover when you remove the 3 torx screws

Hmmmm, that I will have to check out. I'd hate to be steering someone in the wrong direction here.
