I bought a used well taken care of, 2002 F350 - PSD.
My question is if the stock PCM was re-programmed and I add a DP 6 pos. flip chip to the truck, what happens to the PCM program?
Does it go back to stock when set to position #1 and the 5 other positions are now Jody's tunes (and the current PCM performance tune is lost)?
Or does the modified PCM (current) program remain in place when the 6 pos chip is set to postion #1?
None of the above....When you install a chip, what ever programming is on the PCM goes to the background and stays there until the chip is removed. When you get Jody's tunes, if you order a stock or hi idle tune, it will be the original "stock" tuning for your year truck. I have his 80 econo burned into my PCM, but I also had him program that tune on the chip (along with others). If I ever have to remove the chip for updates, problems, etc, I will still have his 80 hp tune to drive on. I HATE STOCK TUNING!
Cool, thanks for the info.
Now I'll be able to tell if my truck has the "stock tune" or a performance tune on the PCM.
A friend of mine has an `01 F350 just like my `02, except his has been "reprogrammed by FORD" what ever that means. All I know is that my truck runs as good or better than his. (Mine being used, I don't know if it was tweaked as well).
Once I get the DP chip in place I hope I can tell the difference.
For those who have the DP chip, do you really feel the difference between the 80, 100 and 120 hp tunes, or do they seem so close they would be just as happy with one of those three?
I have the 40 tow, 60 tow, 80 econo, 120 performance and hi idle. I can feel a difference (seat of the pants) in every position. If you do not have a strong high pressure oil pump, you will most likely not tell a difference in the 80 and 120 settings except that the 120 blows ALOT more smoke. I had a weak pump and had to change mine. After the new one was installed, the difference in the 80 and 120 was large. Jody also changes the shift paterns and TQ lockup depending on what you want to do with it. Talk to him before you buy so he knows what you want.
Your friends 02 was probably de-tuned by Ford. On these trucks, Ford would de-tune them to help the transmissions hold up better. If you are not blowing black smoke at WOT, then you probably still have stock tuning. You will not believe how much different your truck will run with a good flip chip or for that matter, one of Jody's tunes in your PCM.
