"Door Ajar" Chime
Anybody come across this before?
I'm thinking that it's some kind of sensor or switch on the ignition key barrel itself that has broken or become frozen.
I tried carefully shooting a small amount of WD40-type lube into the botom of the barrel (with the long straw attached to the spray can) but it had no effect and I don't want to reapply it in case there's something else in there that could be damaged.
Thanks

The connnector is behind the dash of course.
The way it's supposed to work is the key switch grounds black/pink only when the key is in the ignition.
I'll check it out at the weekend because I'll be back out with the big truck before then and won't get time.
Since I made my first post, above, it failed to start on me today.
I turned the key and the dash lights dimmed but nothing from the starter. No "clunk" of the solenoid trying to engage like the battery was flat (it definitely isn't, and it's brand new, fully charged). Nothing.
It behaved exactly as if I had opened the doors then waited long enough for the immobiliser to re-set (1 minute?), needless to say I hadn't. I took the key back out, armed and disarmed the alarm & immobiliser a few more times but still nothing.
Then after a few more attempts it started fine, like there was nothing the matter at all, and it has been behaving perfectly ever since.
Is this a related problem perhaps, maybe an ignition switch on the way out or is it likely to be (factory) alarm & immobiliser related?
I'd like to nip this problem in the bud so to speak, I don't want my girlfriend getting stuck in the car while I'm away driving over-the-road.
To figure out why it's doing that you'd need the shop manual. All I have is the Ford factory wiring diagrams/EVTM which sez "for diagnostic information refer to section 501-14B and 419-01 of the shop manual."
As far as the ignition switch there is an "ignition cylinder tamper switch" which is seperate from the key in ignition switch.
"If an attempt is made to remove the ignition cylinder, the resistance changes and the alarm is triggered." Dont know if that could be your problem or not.
It's a shame that you cant just remove all this electronic garbage & round file it.
Although the door chime is still on all the time the door is open, the starting problem has still only occurred the once and not come back..
I think we'll check out the black/pink with a meter sometime; hopefully that'll cure it.
