AOD Torque converter
I have an 89 F-150/5.0L AOD 2WD. Am currently rebuilding the engine. The rebuild is a low-medium performance build. The cam I selected comes on about 2000rpm. With that said, I believe the stock converter for the AOD is something like 900-1200 rpm. I am thinking about putting in a 1500-1800 rpm converter in it.
1. Is this a good idea.
2. I still would like to tow with the truck when needed, will I need to retain the split channel on the converter so I get the lock-up when in OD.
3. What converters are recommended. I have been looking at the Hughes converter.
Thanks in advance.
