Intake questions?

I have a 56 Ford truck with a 272 in it, and of course it has the two barrel carbeurator and intake on it. I aquired a four-barrel intake off of a 312 and was wanting to make sure that it would work without any problems. All Y-blocks were basically the same block right? Any help would be very helpful. Let me know if i am wrong. Thanks alot, Matt

Yes it will work. Put a small displacement 4V carb on it, like a Holley 390 cfm with vacuum secondaries.

Actually, a 500 cfm Edelbrock will do wonders
for that combination, the holly is a tad on the
small size...

Hmmm

My 390 cfm Holley has worked quite well on my 239 and my 272. Considering that it came off of a 312, I'm not sure why it would be considered "small."

Then again, I have used a 670 cfm AFB on the 272 also, and it worked fine, too.

Check the carb. base 1st. Some older Y blocks came with a smaller size carb base that later (and today for that matter). I have a 2 - 4bbl manifold and what I have been told are "Holley teapot" carbs. These carbs have a smaller base than today!
