Lock up converter question

This may sound like a dumb question but after years being behind the wheels of ancient vehicles here it goes.
How do you tell if your lockup converter is working?
My 99 V10 4x4 with 4.30's turns about 2000 rpm at 60 mph. I have never noticed the 200 rpm or so drop when the converter gets locked in like in my wifes mini van.
I do drive it like a grandpa so maybe its always locked up when it shifts.
It doesn't seem to unlock if I increase the speed any.
Or in a 99 4R100 is OD the lockup?

I always assumed it would shift into OD, then drop a couple hundred rpm when the converter locked up.
Or maybe with 4.30's and a light load it isn't working hard enough for me to notice.

Its not a dumb question because these trannys don't lock up the same way the old ones did. I had the same question years back when I first got mine and my transmission guy told me to take for a spin and while driving at a constant speed let off the gas and coast for a second then go back to the gas and you will feel a slight increase in rpm then it will drop back to where it was before you took your foot off the gas. That is when it locks up.

Thanks for the info, I most likely have a fully functional converter as the tach and speedo move together with pressure on the gas peddle.
I will give that a try.

Works exactly as you described.
It locks up pretty much the moment is shifts into OD, I guess thats why I never noticed it.
