Electric Fans???
Electric Fans???
Hello all,
First post for me. I've always dones searches and found the info I was looking for, but I'm a little confused about electric fans.
One step back, I am working on saving gas mileage, as most people do. I am already adding a tonneau cover, gibson cat back, and K&N CAI. I started seeing some people mentioning electric fans, but can't really find any definitive info about them.
Are electric fans replacing the stock fan on the radiators?? If so, can someone point me in the direction of finding one for a 2003 Ranger XL Stepside??
Thanks so much
Ben

I don't know if there would be a coniderable diference in mileage, because an electric fan, would need tp be spun by the engine ultimatly. because you need to use the power generated from the altrenator. but i'm not an expert. the tanno cover, however i do have. if your getting one, get a soft cover. they are generally lighter, and easier to take off.they will pull up to 2 mpg better efficency. since you have a stepside though, it might not make as big a difference it would on a reg truck. (But i'll give you cooler looks).
Sporttrack made a really great tonneu cover for my ranger. the only thing about soft covers is you cant take them off in the winter and get them back on. they shrink too much and wont restech. but if you dont use your bed in the winter, go with one of them, they save a good 40-60 lbs.

I'll probably get pounced on for this, but if your aim is just improved mileage, I would pass on the K&N CAI and save the bucks. Your stock system is a cold air system and under normal driving conditions your engine will have sufficient air flow. I switched to a K&N on my former 3.0 and saw no difference in mileage at all. I noticed the greatest increase in mileage when I lowered it 3" and added a hard flush tonneau cover. You can get a cover From Checker for about $300. It comes off easily, can be used year round and never wears out. Keeping the tires a little hard will also help some. Good luck.
