Hello all! Just had my 4" cat back MBRP exhaust installed, without the muffler. I really like the sound, looks, and seems to be a slight bit of power increase (maybe just feels like it with the new rumble). Anyhow, I am thinking about a cold air intake. I have never done this mod on any truck, let alone a diesel. First question is how safe they are in terms of warantee issues. I know for example my cat back exhaust system will most likely not cause any trouble. Ford told me leave the cat, no problems. Tunners/programmers seem to void warantees if they cause the problem (seems to depend on your deeler). What are your guys opinions on warantee issues with intakes, which brand to use, and are they worth the $$$? The local diesel place here in Colo. Springs says they are, but they are also getting the money too. Thanks guys, love this new truck. Oh, compared to my 04 the MBRP seems to have a little more rumble at low RPM's, and just a hair more turbo whistle. My wife was driving me around the neighbor hood while I was riding in the bed listening (is was only 50 degrees). Sounds great, Levi
I reccomend the MAC cold air intake. It bolts on in minutes and has all the hook ups for your factory sensors. It has a cool blue reusable filter and a polished chrome finish. The turbo whitsle combined with an MBRP is awsome. As for warranty concerns I just had my truck in ford for a warranty issue and the tech was commenting on how much he liked the intake. He also told me that as long as the factory sensors are operating and not disconnected or bypassed than the intake will not void your warranty. The mac is also easy on your wallet, about 185.00 is what I paid, and it is simple to put in your self.
If you're not looking for the ultimate in performance, then the MAC or a K&N kit and great ones. If you want the ultimate in performance, I like the Jobe Performance intakes. www.jobeperformance.com
AFE makes a nice intake. They use a synthetic fiber so there is no need to oil the filter ever. I would stay away from K&N. Dont expect a big difference in performance. The HP & torque numbers are at high RPM's that your diesel doesnt see very often. Maybe a little quicker spool times and louder turbo wistle is about all you will get. AFE also allows you to keep you filter-reminder.
Also I left off that my oil reports have come back with my PPM actually less than my stock filter.

Afe Pro Guard 7 is the ONLY way to go if you want to keep dirt out of the engine, the 4 layer K&N, MAC etc etc will let a lot of dirt thru that the PG7 stops. If you want to go stealthy get the AFE that fits the stock plastic can, or any of the 3 other options they have from basic to full blown sealed cold air systems. I had the chance to speak to the Owner/programmer for one of tha major chip manufactures this past week. So I ask what is the HP and torque at the wheels for a 6.0L. 254 HP and 450 torque at the wheels. I have a AIRAID cold air box and 4" MAGNAFLOW exhaust on the 2005 6.0L. So how much extra HP and ft lbs am I getting I asked. A big zero was his comment. Unless I go with a chip to spit in extra fuel they don't do JACK.

That may be true, but if you chip it and stick with the stock intake and exhaust, you don't get near the benefit out of the chip. The stock ones don't flow as well as the upgrades and the chips need that extra flow.
I am not planning on chipping the truck. I figured if there was that much difference in air flow, then it couldn't hurt, but didn't want to give Ford any reason to deny warantee work. Mark, does the AFE us the stock sensors and filter minder? This has been some good info. Thanks guys, Levi
Well sort of but not really correct. If you add intake and exhaust on a stock truck you'll see 25-25 HP gains in a dyno. If you add exhaust and intake after adding a programmer or box, you'll see nearly nothing HP wise, but you will get a quicker spool up on the turbo, MUCH lower EGT's and potential MPG increases too! Plus the lower EGT's will allow you to run a higher HP programmer/box level and still have safe EGT's as well.
Hey thanks for the clarifaction. I kept asking this guy that, but he said no gain without fuel, and they have a dyno. I have seen dyno charts from the aftermarket manufacturing companies. I appreciate your comments.
