Front Shocks 87 Bronco
Just brought home an 87 Bronco with the 300 six and a 4 speed (which I believe is a TOD or Tremec T170). Truck has 4 shocks in the front: is this standard, optional or aftermarket? Its my first Big bronco..

The quad shock front axle is a package, usually with the towing option. Post the tranny code on the door jamb sticker, or the shift pattern or both. My 86 has the NP435 4-sp which is a brute for puliing with a granny low. The TOD will have 3=sp w/ overdrive, not as stout or geared near the same.

Tranny code is B. Pretty sure its a TOD as I found the receipts for a rebuild of it in the glovebox. The 4th gear is overdriven, as indicated by the shifter ****. Agree with your assessment of the tranny vs the 435. Matter of fact, I agreed to buy it sight unseen based on the owners sayings "its not an overdrive tranny". It not exactly what I wanted but it will be fine. It was pretty cheap, and I like the idea of a straight siz with a 4 speed...

I think Motive Gear and Novak Enterprises have some good tech info on their websites on the Ford trannies, gear ratios, and reliability. You can always swap out when the TOD goes out again, but if it's new/rebuilt, may last a while. You should like the 300 I-6, a great motor with lots of torque. JSM84
