Need Advice Please

so today i was out in the mud with my 79 f150. its got the straight 6 and is lifted considerably. but anyways i got stuck pretty bad. i was in real muddy water all the way a little bit above the bottom of the cab for the front of the truck and the back end was sticking out.

So anyways i got pulled out and everything was fine i was shifting great and all that then i get home and let it sit for a couple of min. and go out again. this time the clutch wont disingage. it takes a ton of work to get it to disingage, and somtimes it dosent even come out when the pedal does. like i can pull the pedal back out and push it in and its like nothing is happening. it really sucks cause i started it up a little while ago and drove into my garage door. uggg so anyways any help would be very helpful and i would appreciate it so much. thanks

Im going to drain the transmition and refill it do you think that will help? i talked to somone who said that there was a plate that i could pull off and inspect it as well as clean it out with a hose. is there any merit to this and if so which plate it is? there are 2 on the bottom there and when i removed the front one it drained a real yellow fluid all over me. was this transmition fluid? im really new to all this so please help guys.

was the fluid runny or thick? is this a 4 speed or a 3 spd? the clutch not disengaging doesnt really have much to do with tranny fluid. i beleive the only way to inspect the clutch/pressure plate is to pull the trans. check all of the linkages starting at the clutch fork and work your way back to the pedal. im guessing you have a bingding joint somewhere. someone else will probably chime in that knows a little more about this than me

That transmission should seal out any form of liquid.

I thought only automatics leaked water in ?

Manual transmissions have 80w-90w gear oil (black as night), it shouldn't be yellow.

I can't think of anything that would contain Yellow fluid near the transmission.

Yes the title could have been: Standard Transmission Problems

It could be the color of clean motor oil, if it's been recently changed.

The oil is thick, something like honey (but not quite), when at room temps.

With all due respect, if its as black as night, I would think the oil needs changing. I change mine every 50,000 to 80,000 miles. It comes out brownish, to black, and then clean ("yellowish-light brownish clean motor oil color") 80-90w gear oil goes back in.

There is a place with a long hole in it where the bellhousing attaches to the engine, at the bottom. (At least on my truck) that could alow mud to enter the flywheel and clutch area.

Then of course if the tranny was missing its clutch fork rubber boot, where it comes out to hook to the linkage, or there was a hole in it, all sorts of water-mud, and crap could have entered it there. then if that happened, it's theoreticly possible when you let the truck sit, the mud hardend into a brick, causing the clutch to seize. The linkage couldn't move the fork.

Just my 2 cents.

Thats sounds like exactly the hole that i found where the mud went in. Im gonna take the plates off of it later and spray it out with a hose. that mud i was in was realliy clayish so id imagine it cant be good in there. anyways. thanks for your help and if anyone else has more advice id really appreciate it.

Which Hole ?

The opening for the clutch fork/bell-housing which isn't the transmission.

Or the Inspection plate opening for the clutch/bellhousing which also isn't the transmsission.

The clutch fork opening and inspection cover are obvious places for water/dirt/crud to enter the clutch area and assumed that would have been taken care of and cleaned out.

You mentioned the transmssion which is where I had my thoughts on your concern.

You said "Yellow" (a coolant or murky water colour) ....not a dark gold color which could be clean trans lube.

I read this:

Yes! Gold color was the word I was searching for last night thank you.

And you are 100% right.

The openings in the bellhousing, isn't the transmission, but getting thick "cakey" mud in there definately could cause some of the problems he described.

Sorry for the confusion.

I would try cleaning it out with a lot of water, and seeing if that helps.

The mud was mentioned to be real clayish. Theoreticly, The heat from the engine or tranny could have baked it into a brick that can't be removed with just water alone. It may have to be dismanteled, and cleaned, or components replaced etc...

Fingers crossed though.

Good luck.
