Desperately need help in telling me how to remove the ingition/key switch on a 1988 F-150 XLT Lariat, I already have the steering wheel off, but cannot figure out how to remove the switch? Anyd advice would be greatly appreciated. As soon as possible.
i am not sure its the same but it should be. if you mean the actual key cylinder all you have to do is remove the paneling under the steering column and directly under the key cylinder. then take something like a paperclip or one of the test leads from a multimeter (or something like that--anything you can find to fit in a small hole)and push it up into this little hole you will find underneath the key cylinder. this hole has a pin in it that hold the key cylinder in place.
i think you have to turn the key a certain way though. i cant remember. play with it. try to put it in acc or start and it should wiggle its way out for you. no need to remove the steering wheel that i know of.
this is from doing it in a 94 . yours might be different. hope that helps
On my 88 with tilt near the hazard button close to the key cylinder boss there is a small hole . Insert a 1/8 or smaller drill bit and put the key in the on position, gearshift in park While pushing on the drill bit pull on the key and the whole thing should come out. There is a spring loaded button inside and you are pushing it in so it will release the lock assembly. The steering does not have to come off to do this on the tilt. I have never done a non tilt but if I am reading the manual correctly it looks like the steering wheel comes off and the pin is inside the housing.
