Posted this on another board with no response...I have a '06 Lariat and am curious as to the location of the outside temp guage sensor. My reading seems to be close to 10F above the actual temp (yes, I realize that the weather folks take the air temp in a shaded and vented box, so you add roughly 6-10F to that number if you're in the sun...), but even at night it reads much higher than the ambient temp.
I am pretty sure it's mounted in front of the radiator, and will pick up engine heat off the radiator until you cool off the engine bay by running! It also interfaces with the EAC system.
Not 100% sure but on my 04 there is the really strange black box that is attached to the Review Mirror(strange because its just a basic mirror no reflective coating or anything electric about it). It has a ton of wires that run all along the A-pillar and into the dash (found that out while i was installing my XM). I was guessing that was it. It would also explain the higher temp because of its close proximity to the windsheild.
Also, in my truck, once i get in my truck and drive it around with the AC on the temp drops a lot. Like about 20 minutes ago it read 103 and after i went around the block it went to 93. which it is exactly 93 outside.

I doubt that box by the mirror is it. It would have to be mounted outside the truck to pick up ambient temps. I have the same thing on my mirror, no idea wth it is.
I've got the odd black box, but I've got a dimmer mirror so I assumed that box controlled that somehow. I have done all sorts of Google searches looking for the answer. It's not a big deal, but now I'm on a freaking mission!
the outside air temp senosr is infront of the radiator, it looks like a black plastic cone, it is only designed to give an accurate reading while driving down the road with air flowing across is, not sitting at idle
Great...now I can give up this absurd internet search. You wouldn't think this would be hard info to find among all the other stupid crap out there on the www. But it is!
It is mounted in front of rad. on the vertical support. When mine was off and very slow to react to temp change they had to replace the sensor and then reflash the PCM. That helped the A/C but caused problems for my SCT tuner because it changed the PCM code and took weeks to try to figure out the new code. If they do reflash, make sure the new code is written on the receipt or written right on the PCM unit.
