i want to convert my auto hubs to manual hubs around how much money would this run me and who should i go through i hear alot of people running warn how is are they? price? thanks.
my friend did the conversion himself on his truck. he is running warn hubs and it was cheap and easy to do he says. I personally have not done it but he says his fuel bill went down aswell because now he wasn't always pushing the front end.
Warn hubs have been around since the begining of 4 wheel drive, the hubs are on every type of vehicle, slightly less applications for newer model trucks.
The hubs a great, but there are couple of other companies out there too.
My Warns were about 180.00 (IN HAWAI'I). They were easy to install with basic hand tools.
I hope others will post their inputs about hubs, I like my Warns.
The manual Warn hub kit is under 100 dollars for sure. I did mine few years back, and not too bad to do. Just read directions, and get sm. screwdriver, dental pick and needle nose pliers. Keep attention of sm. slide clip and other stuff. When re-installing do not over grease the slide hub gears, just a thin smear coat.... And if the manual hubs click a bit, pull out the coil spring out a bit by hand to expand the coiled spring inside the hub cap assembly a little more out, to apply little more tension on slide gear on axle shaft, it worked for me.
The manual/free selector **** should turn somewhat smoothly when done properly, and can feel the click feel when Locked or free.
My truck was converted by the previous owner but he said it was under $200. I just had some front end work done and had them put new Warn Lockouts on since the old weren't working right. I like them alot.
thanks guys i'm not worried about install i've taking apart so many manual and auto hubs dissasembled them to nothing to unlock them from rust. i just really wanted to know price range? do you like them? any other companies that make them? and if so how mush thanks. but as i see warn is probably the way to go.
I got Mile Markers from Bronco Graveyard. http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-...ersion_kit.htm
They work well but you need to keep the selector **** lubed and moving freely. I wash my truck alot and this may attribute to some grit getting in there. Also, the selector **** is brass and will tarnish a bit.
You will need a conversion kit with which ever hubs you choose.
One of the first things my dad put on my truck when he bought it back in 1996 was a set of warn hubs and they have worked well every time we needed 4 wheel except once but the ones my dad bought are warrantied for life. The truck had about 35k on it when we put them on and it has about 160k on it now.
