'68 Electrical Questions

Couple questions pertaining to my electrical system. '68 F250 390 C-6 all wires/harnesses in good condition...

1. Are the parking lights supposed to come on when the headlights are turned on? Normally, I'd assume so, but I just got finished hooking up all the electrical components and the parking lights function properly in the "half-pull" position of the light lever, but go dark when the light lever is fully pulled and the headlights come on. In other words, I've got no power to the parking lights when the headlights come on. The turn signals function properly no matter what. If there is a problem what can I do to find it?

2. What wire from the alternator is responsible for charging the battery? I've got new battery (2 actually), new voltage regulator and new alternator (tested at auto parts store when purchased), but no charging going on . How do I test to make sure the battery is getting what it needs to stay charged?

As always, I look forward to all input and thanks for the help.

Ok on the first question ...

I think your parking lights are OK.. iam not sure but they are ON in later years only ..like my 1972 , the parking lights stay on with the head lights.

If you check your voltage at the battery with the engine running at fast idle....you should get something like 13.5to 14.3 volts ...
with the engine off 12.2 to 12.5volts

'70 was the first year they started keeping the parking lights on with the headlights. Does anybody know why didn't before then? I remember hearing that there was a reason but forgot the details.

Thanks guys, it's good to know that I don't have to find a short somewhere. I'd also like to know the reason if anybody has the answer.

The parking lights are not supposed to be on with the headlights. In other words your lights are functioning properly.

Check your voltage regulator.

The bat terminal on the back of the alternator hooks directly to the hot side of the solenoid for carging the batteries, if its not marked bat its the biggest stud on the back of the alt a 1/4-20 i think
