I replaced my standard headlights with super bright models that are 5 watts greater. The very next day I noticed that they blink on and off AT REGULAR INTERVALS.
Symptoms:
1. Headlights DO NOT flicker for the first few minutes
2. After 1-2 minutes, I hear a faint clicking 4-8 times under the instrument panel
3. On the final click (slightly louder) the lights go off
4. The lights remain off for 30-60 seconds of silence
5. The lights come on silently, and clicking begins anew after 30 seconds or so.
6. ad nauseum
Most headlight switches have a "safety" breaker in them to prevent overheating, at least the 70's. Sounds like this might be the problem, going weak and the extra draw brought it to "light". If you really want to brighten up those lights, check the tech. section for the relay installation. This takes the switch power to energize a relay that pulls the headlight power direct from the battery. It does make a difference, when I did mine, left one original plug, used one side from the relay and the other from the switch, headlight looked yellowish from the switch, as compared to the white light from the one fed by the relay.
