New Flowmaster 40

I just had a original 40 series flowmaster muffler installed (2004 5.4l scab). I kept the same tailpipe. It's a single in, single out.

For those of you considering purchasing one, I'll describe the sound.

It's not overly loud, but it's also not quiet. You can here it in the cab at idle, especially with the air conditioner on. You can here it in the cab while driving. It has a bit of drone, but not bad at all for my tastes. It drones less than my old 50 series suv.

If you want a fairly loud sound - get it. It you want just a bit more sound than stock, it may be too much.

It cost me $100 installed at a local shop.

I have the 40's on my '04 but put the Force I with 50's #17403 on my '06, for the mellower sound ,in the cab on the highway don't hear them unless you get on it.Easy cat back install, the stock pipe came off to easy and the new went on the same. The new pipe was 1/2" larger than stock, used supplied clamps no weld,on for 800mi. no problems.Easy one man driveway install

Do either the 40 or the 50 series come close to sounding like the stang? I have been wondering what exhuast system if any will get me close to that sound. I wouldn't mind a bit louder at idle but nothing crazy when you jump on the gas.

I have the 50 Series with Delta Flow and it does sound more like a Mustang, it was a good compromise cause my wife didn't want it too loud, but honestly I'd want it louder. Its a good exhaust and I don't hear any drone, then again I've been in the Artillery business for the past 11 years now.

Don't hear much of anything now a days hey. Whats Delta Flows? Are these tips or something. Have you had any problems with rusting? I still come to a decision between magnaflow or flow master.

Delta Flow is some technology Flowmaster is puttin' in their performance mufflers. I've only had the system about 3 months, so no rustin'. Magnaflow is also a good piece of gear, but you could always go to manufacturer's websites and hear sound clips of their exhausts. Check flowmaster, magnaflow, bassani, borja, and corsa and make an informed decision.

After driving with this new muffler for a week, it seems that it has gotten more mellow. Either that or I am just used to the sound.
