I got a Edelbrock 1406 600 carb for my 460 after installing my carb I found my egr spacer plate was warped. So I need to get a spacer for my factory intake. Which of these spacer from Edelbrock will give me the most torque?
Edelbrock#8711 1 inch spacer or #8713 2inch spacer? here is the picture of the 8713. Thanks
The taller the intake the higher the power range is a basic rule of thumb, adding spacers is like making the intake talller. If you must use a spacer go with the shorter one if your looking for low end, if your looking for high rpms then the taller spacer.
The 2" is probably gonna cause the air cleaner to hit the hood. You need to measure to see how much room you have. The taller on will help low end throttle response but the clearance issue will be the deciding factor. Remember the the engine torques in the mount so you have to leave an inch or to of room or you will hit the hood. Get some silly putty or clay and put some on both sides of the air cleaner, close hood. Now go make a couple of full throttle runs off the line and then measure the clay. You might way to put sone clear plastic wrap over the top of the clay so it doesn't stick to the hood and give a wrong measurement.
What year truck is this?
What intake are you using, an Edlebrock or other aftermarket?
Or the original intake?
It will make a difference.
On the 460 in my '66 F-100, I put an Edelbrock Performer intake and a 1460 750 CFM carburator. I found I needed a 1 inch spacer, and found everything fit with it just fine. I can use either the '76 flat air cleaner with a the paper element or the 5" tall oil bath original air cleaner that came with the truck.
As Bear 45/70 says, the spacer may cause your air cleaner to hit the hood, but that will depend on the year truck you have.
One other thing: What motor mounts and perches do you have? I have the original Ford 460 perches from a '77 F-250, so the engine sits in the engine bay correctly. If you are using homemade or aftermarket mounts, the engine may sit up higher, and may not allow for a spacer or taller air cleaner.
The spacer should fit OK, but I think you may indeed have interference with your hood - based on the little experience I have had with the '80s trucks. I was thinking for some oddball reason the truck was a '70s with a transplanted 460.
Have you put in a straight up timing gear and chain set? If not, that will get you a lot more power than a spacer!
1986 F250 SC factory 460 still the original engine with the factory intake C/6 trans
Well mine is an '84 F250 SC with original 460 with factory intake and carb (soon to be replaced by my reworked 1850 600 Holley just like the one I used on my '68 F250 390), recurved dist., 3" exhaust, C-6 and 4:10 rear gears. Can tow anything past or over everything except a gas station.
My problem was the last 2 Tomco rebuilt carbs were not any good. The 1st carb poured gas through it like I drink iced tea,the 2nd carb had so many gas leaks coming out everywhere that I had to get a edelbrock carb just so I can drive my truck.
Suggest you rebuild them yourself. It ain't rocket science and they give you easy to follow instructions or you can go to the Holley site for help in the "Tech Service" section.
True but I have never rebuilt one and the Edelbrock 600 didn't cost me anything they exchanged the Tomco for it.All I have to do now is get the spacer plate at the first of the month and I should be back to driving. My son just put on a new power brake booster and MC on my truck for me yesterday which had a vaccum leak so hopefully that will help correct some of the problems.
Ooops.... I should have check Edelbrocks site. But then again they aren't rocket science either. More parts and adjustments but still not all that difficult.
I have to agree with you on that.My middle son helps working on my truck and car since I am unable he getting ready to leave for basic training at Ft.Benning on the 5th of next month,so now its up to my youngest son to start learning how to work on vehicles. So they will have a basic knowledge of cars and trucks and they can learn the harder stuff later.
