jba is decent or go with bbk, they make very nice sets of shorty headers. never had a problem with them

Will shorts or longs fit on my 1984, 351W and connect to the existing exhaust pipe?

jba, gibson, edelbrock, bbk and bassani are all great quality brands.

Long tube headers tend to have fit issues which may require notching the frame or denting the header. then you would need to have the exhaust redone because the stock Y pipe would no long work

I put hedmans on mine and they were worth the money. It's an '84 150 with a 351W, there is a clearance issue with the starter, meaning that you have to remove the header in order to remove the starter, but I think that's fairly common. They were quite a bit less than some of the others, don't look as pretty, but I can feel the difference, especially with throttle response.

When I look at the different headers on the internet I keep seeing a warning that they are only good for racing and not legal for the road. Does everyone just ignore that or are there models for road use?

Weeelll they don't have to be smog legal where I live! I am running Hedmans on my 84 F150 with the 300 six.

I have headman's on my windsor. I can't complain on the price I got them for but they are a big pain in the butt compared to manifolds.

I am pretty happy with my Hedmans. The only real problem I have had was trying to keep the collectors sealed, they use the ball style. It was almost impossible to keep the bolts tight. I ended up buying longer bolts and installing a stiff stainless steel spring and double lock nuts on each collector bolt. Now there is room for flexibility of the exhaust system and the bolts don't come loose. I had nothing but problems with stock manifolds on my 300, they were always cracking or warping or both. After the 3rd set of manifolds I got pissed and put headers on it. Now I have more power and better mileage... can't complain!

Try some Mustang shorty headers, readily available on ebay and might hook up to your y pipe. Had a set on my F250 SC with 351w just had to bend a body flange, with 302 it would clear.
