compression?

Question compression?

if you do a compression test and all cylinders come within 10 % of each other does that absolutely rule out any cavitation problem? what should compression be on 91 7.3 approx. 200,000 or so? Have posted before was haveing prob w/ oil in coolant and every once in awhile would blow water back threw the overflow and out the top (not all the time) and would want to overheat. could start truck first thing and drive bout 15 mins and water would come out over flow, fill rad back up and could drive all day and never do it again only at first start up of the day. Have replaced both head gaskets now but still wants to run a little warm have taken out thermost and seems to have stopped prob. just want any input u can give and before i go any further just want to rule out any cavitation prob. thanks again

oil in the coolant is usually a problem with the oil cooler. If you are pushing coolant out the overflow without any signs of oil in the radiator, you problem have a head gasket problem or cracked head.
if the coolant is leaking into the crankcase, it will usually show up as white gummy crap on the oil fill cap or in the valve covers. (drivers side comes off easiest)

I had my truck losing coolant like you did, it was the thermostat not opening up when it should. Put a new one in and problem went away.

Put a new thermostat in. From the symptoms you give, it should take care of your problem. Since it seems to only push water out after a short time and then is fine the rest of the day, I don't suspect any cavitation or cylinder problem. I agree with bilder12 that the oil is coming from the cooler.

It is not a good idea to run without a t stat. Removing the t stat doesn't give the coolant enough time to remove the heat from the engine like it is supposed to. The gauge will read cooler, but the engine will actually run hotter.

Only use a thermostat from International or Ford. The others will cause problems.
It should have a rubber gasket around the outside surface if it is the correct one.
Also check the bypass ball valve in the thermostat housing for gasket material that is blocking it from moving freely.

just for my imformation can anyone give me the approx compression the engine should have. and this is taken from the glow plug correct? thank you again,new to the diesel appreciate the help

Should be close to 400 PSI.
